For supplying low quality school uniforms to the students of state runs schools in Himachal Pradesh by State Civil Supply Corporation under Mahatma Gandhi School Uniform Scheme, the state government would conduct quick probe into alleged scam and will come out with its report within the budget sessions.

Facing accusation of blatant violations in popular Mahatma Gandhi Uniforms Scheme, which was kicked of by the last BJP rule on the name of former Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee in the house was replied by G.S. Bali, Transport and Consumer affairs, Food and Civil Supply Corporation Minister. He said that a probe is to be conducted by the government and its report is to be presented in this budget session.

Earlier Chief minister Mr. Virbhadra Singh who had the portfolio of education accepted that during the random sampling as many as 27 samples were found substandard and as many as 193 samples were taken for  ascertaining the quality.

Mr. Singh regrets that before they came to know about its quality the uniforms had already been distributed among the students. He also said that he would ensure in the future that such firm to be kept out of scheme for further bidding so that the students do not got substandard uniforms. The chief minister also said that state government has deployed Civil Supply Corporations for this purpose as soon as it came to know about the failing of samples.

Prem Kumar Dhumal, the leader of opposition also said that ministers should ensure that a free and fare probe would be conducted into alleged scams and those responsible for the scams should be brought on the book after registering cases against them.

However Mr G.S. Bali informed the members that they had already penalized Rupees 3.89 crore on the errant firms for suppling poor quality uniforms.

Opposition members accusing the concerned ministers for sheltering the guilty alleged that the state government failed to stop the firms from taking part in the tendering as it was supplying repeatedly low quality cotton and polyesters uniforms to the same bidders time and again.

The minister has assured to conduct the probe when Mr. Dhumal accused the government for trying to shelter the errant firms in lieu of charging heavy penalty.

It is worthwhile to mention here that uniforms procured by Civil Supply Corporations are being distributed to students from first to tenth standard and the present government has changed its name from Atal Uniforms scheme in 2013.
