Dalai Lama leaves for US

Dharamshala: Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama left for a 10-day US tour today, where he is scheduled to meet with President Barack Obama and will also address a religious and social gathering, an official from Dalai Lama’s office said.

Tenzin Talkha, joint secretary at Dalai Lama’s Office told media persons that the His Holiness left for US through a charter flight from Gagal airport here this afternoon. He is expected to meet with US President Barack Obama in the White House on February 18, 2010, he added. As it has been mentioned earlier, Obama had expressed his willingness to meet with the Tibetan spiritual leader in capacity of a religious master and leader of an old cultural civilization, despite stern warning from Chinese authorities in this regard. China had cautioned Obama administration that it could affect Sino-US relations.
