Students’ protest enters Day 5

Solan: Mushrooming of educational institutes around the state within a short span of time has started showing up fault lines as is evident from the ongoing turmoil at Akal Academy of Engineering and Technology in Baru Sahib. For the last five days, students here have been protesting against the alleged indifference of their college authorities towards their needs. Students are claiming that they are being made to pay undisclosed charges, besides not getting facilities promised to them.

Now the problem has snowballed with student unions from neighboring colleges also getting involved. On the other hand, the college authorities claim most of the demands of the students have been met except those on dress code and attendance requirement.

  1. Not only at Badu Sahab but the same situation is their at UIIT Shimla also.At UIIT Shimla also, the students are facing several issues like the above for which the strike was started. There also the students are charged too high, more than any other engineering college at H.P. Moreover UIIT Shimla comes under Govt. College.Their boys are not provided with even the hostel facility.Their is no proper building also. The classes are held at the two basements of the Deptt. of Biotechnology. Not only this, their is lack of regular staff also at the college.

The government of the state should look into the matter seriously.
