Shimla: Leader of the Opposition in Himachal Pradesh, Vidya Stokes has welcomed the recent appointment of Prakash Thakur as member board of directors of APEDA (Agricultural and Processed Food Products Development Authority) by the government of India.

Thakur, fondly referred to as the ‘gentleman farmer’, has been at the forefront of the farmers’ movement in Himachal Pradesh since 1977, and has for long been playing a vital role in the development of farming practices in the region.

His efforts and achievements include, being the founder member and Vice President, HP Fruit Growers’ Association, he has also been a Member Support Price Committee for Fruit and Vegetables, as well as a Member HP Spray Schedule Committee. Shri Thakur also has had the distinction of being a Member of Central Seed Committee, Ministry of Agriculture Government of India from 1994 -1996.

“Prakash Thakur’s appointment is truly a welcome step towards the goal of achieving greater pace and scope of the development of farming practices in Himachal Pradesh.” Stokes stated.
