50% subsidy on seeds for the coming Rabi season

Shimla: Himachal Pradesh government would provide 50 per cent subsidy on all types of seeds for the coming Rabi season to the farmers who have already faced difficulties due to drought like situation during Kharif crop. The government would bear an expenditure of Rs. 10 crore on this account, claimed Ram Subhag Singh, Secretary, Agriculture & Horticulture.

Singh said that there was no scarcity of seeds for the ongoing Rabi season sowing in the state and the government has made necessary arrangements for it in advance. He said that the agriculturists and horticulturists of the state has faced difficulties during last few months due to drought like situation and government has decided to provide relief through subsidy to the farmers to cope up with this problem. He said that for this purpose government was in constant touch with National Seed Corporation, NAFED, Seed Corporation Haryana and other seed providing agencies. In addition to this, the state government has also taken necessary steps to provide seed to the farmers of the state though their own seed producing farms. He said that Agriculture Department has made arrangements to provide about 1 Lac quintal seed against the demand of about 63,402 quintal seed for the Rabi season.

Secretary Agriculture said that for the current Rabi season approximately 80,000 quintal wheat seed has been procured against the demand of 56,729 quintal. Similarly, steps have been taken to procure 4636 quintal Peas seed and 167 quintal vegetable seed.

Singh said that he is in a continuous touch with the Ministry of Fertilizer to provide Complex Fertilizer timely in the state. He said that Ministry has accorded approval to provide 8000 MT of Complex Fertilizer to the state for the month of November which will be supplied by the end of the month. Out of 8000 MT 2500 MT Complex Fertilizer has already reached. He said that every effort will be made to make sure that the farmers will not face any difficulty regarding fertilizer supply. He said that directions has also been issued to supply CAN, MOP and SSP fertilizers during the month of November and December and it will reach farmers shortly.

He said that in order to ensure sufficient supply of pesticides in State, steps are being taken by the Department of Horticulture. State government would provide necessary funds to procure pesticides so that it can be provided to the farmers in time.
