Voter information on mobiles for first time



Shimla: Voters of Rohru and Jawali constituencies this time will have an option to get all voting related information on their mobile numbers before they cast their votes on November 7, 2009. BK Agarwal, principal secretary, information technology, said voters will be able to get all relevant information about their polling booths and constituencies by sending their EPIC (voters ID card) number to 56300 by using Short Message Service (SMS) in the format.

The SMS Gateway has been integrated with the database of state election department and within moments of sending the SMS, the voter will be provided with the name and number of the constituency, the polling station number, voter serial number and the polling station address on SMS. The charges per SMS will be Rs 2/- per SMS for BSNL and Rs 3/- for other networks.
