Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh government has authorised police personnel, not below the rank of head constable, to impose and collect fine on smoking in public places and to compound the offence under Section 4 of the Cigarette and other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce Production, supply and Distribution Act, 2003) in their respective jurisdiction in addition to the persons authorized by the Central government.

  1. does things like these are working, already these is set of community assigned for the job of collecting fine for smoking in public area. but things are not working out people do smoke as there are not many responsible people to bother about people who are smoking in public zones. Hope this new added category to the set will give some seriousness to fine collection.

  2. Last year i was in kangra for a job fair. there at a tea stall while having tea, two young boys walk in and start having a smoke. When i request them to step out and smoke, they started giving smart remarks- we are also humans madam, why cant we smoke here etc. i only had to get out of the stall coz i didnt want any tamasha from them.

    its so hard to request someone to show some courtesy and not smoke in public places. You cant stop such miscreants. Its inviting trouble. so much for being good samaritan. People would only bribe the punisher.
