Shimla: Around 1,550 contestants filed their nomination papers for elections to student bodies in 97 colleges across Himachal Pradesh today. The polls will be held on August 21 to decide the 388 representatives.

For the first time, Himachal Pradesh University campus would be under video surveillance till the elections are over to record any irregularities that may surface. Keeping in view the heightened tension following recent violence on the campus, the authorities have also warned the student groups that if any incident of violence happens before the polls or within 10 days of the elections then the VC would have powers to annul the results.

  1. Why don’t the government ban elections in degree colleges..these elections are the root cause of poor plight of education in these very colleges. No student gain anything from these elections and the so called representatives ( who are mostly shit of the college) want elections just for their own benefit and political leverage.
