Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh state secretariat of the Communist Party of India Marxist has alleged that the Congress party has been applying double standards over the CD issue involving Union steel minister Virbhadra Singh. The CPIM demands that the former chief minister should resign on moral grounds and if he thinks he is innocent should wait for the clearance of the court as is the set precedence that applied for Sukh Ram, Asha Kumari and GS Bali, all of whom were also accused in different cases.
The CPIM has stated the debate generated over the merits of the case is issueless as the voice samples sent to Central forensic Sciences Laboratory, Chandigarh, have matched the voice of Virbahdra Singh and his wife Pratibha Singh. “Whether there is any foul play in it or the tapes have been doctored should be left to the evidence that will follow in the due course of time. Since Virbhadra Singh is holding a public office the demand of the day evolves that he should resign and should face the truth,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, the Congress termed as the corruption case as “frivolous”,
with party spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi stating, “We have to look into the matter and I can assure you that frivolous allegations just to create a political atmosphere wont’t do.”
