Mankotia’s CD back to haunt Virbhadra

Shimla: The CD scandal finally came to haunt Union steel minister and five-time Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh Virbhadra Singh today as he along with his wife Pratibha Singh were booked for corruption by the state police.

It is learnt that the government has act upon a complaint filed by former bureaucrat SM Katwal before the Himachal Pradesh High Court seeking registration of a case on the basis of the CD released by Virbhadra’s former colleague Vijay Singh Mankotia in 2008 Hamirpur parliamentary by-election in May 2008. Virbhadra Singh was reportedly heard referring to some monetary transactions on phone with former IAS officer Mahinder Lal in the CD. IGP (vigilance) SR Mardi confirmed they were booked on the basis of the audio CD released by Mankotia.

Mankotia had demanded registration of a case against Virbhadra Singh and others when he had released the CD. Interestingly, Mankotia had announced retirement from active politics after he lost the Assembly election a BSP candidate.
