Shimla: Hundreds of CPIM activists held a strong protest demonstration outside the office of Shimla deputy commissioner demanding immediate transfer of the incumbent superintendent of police from Shimla, alleging partiality in the investigation of the recent incident of violence that took place in the Himachal Pradesh University and Government College Kotshera.
CPIM also met the director general of police and submitted a memorandum to him. The dharna continued for more than two hours. The mass meeting was addressed amongst others by Rakesh Singha, state secretary of the party and a former MLA from Shimla. He severely indicted the incumbent police administration, especially the SP, for “playing into the hands of the ruling party”. He stated, :the SP was behaving like a political worker and not like an administrator. The partisanship his entire working could be gauged from the fact that even before the registration of the FIR and the medical opinion he showed his determination to institute section 307 of the IPC i.e attempt to murder so that the students belonging to SFI are put behind the bars for a longer period”.
He said such efforts cannot cow down the legitimate voice of the common students. He further charged the state government for playing down petty politics on the campus to recruit some of their party people with backdoor way to which Wilson committee has become the biggest road block. Precisely because of this, he said the government and the university authority have connived with the district administration to blunt all those voices that raise a finger against the dilution of the Wilson committee recommendations for recruitment.
Others who spoke on the occasion included Dr Kashmir Singh Thakur, Dr Onkar Shad, Tikender Panwar, Vijender Mehra, Jagat Ram and several other leaders of the state committee.
