Shimla to host Van Mahotsav on August 8

Shimla: A state-level Van Mahotsav will be held in the suburbs of Shimla on August 8. This was decided in the meeting of senior officers of the forest department held here today, which was presided over by Forest Minister Shri JP Nadda.

Nadda said that Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal would preside over the Van Mahotsav and the place around Shimla from where the formal beginning of the Van Mahotsav will be made will be finalized soon.
Nadda added that effective steps should be taken for revival of the deodar trees in and around Shimla besides other places, keeping in view the importance of these trees in preserving the environment. The forest minister said that the government was committed to bring more and more area under green cover by increasing plantation of value added saplings.

He said that various effective steps had been taken by the present government under Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal for the preservation and protection of forests in the state so that ecological balance is maintained. He said that it was due to these efforts that state had been awarded ‘Diamond State Award’ last year.
