Shimla: Himachal Pradesh government has chalked out an ambitious project to train villagers to test water available through various natural sources in their area. The IPH department has shortlisted five non-governmental organisations – Sutra, Himachal Gyan Vigyan Samiti, HP Volunteer Health Organisation, Save and Chord – to train master trainers. These master trainers would then train villagers to use water-testing kits. These kits have already been dispatched to panchayats. Under the project, water testing would be done at three levels – village, district and finally at the state testing lab. With the state facing continuous water shortage, the state government has recently been focusing on reviving traditional water sources.
