Shimla: In an unusual development not expected in a hill state like Himachal Pradesh, the state government on Thursday decided to keep all government schools closed till June 30 in view of extreme hot weather prevailing in the region. It may be mentioned that otherwise the schools close for the monsoon break from mid July.

Only schools in Lahaul and Spiti would be exception to the orders. The education department has also asked private schools to consider a break. In the last few days, temperatures across the state, especially in the lower belt, have beaten all previous records with Shimla town itself crossing the 30 degree Celsius mark, something unknown to the state capital.
