Shimla: Assuring the state government,  Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Anand Sharma said that Himachal Pradesh deserved special concessions and as a representative of the state I put sincere efforts to get special package for industry in the state. Sharma was speaking at the valedictory session of the two-day conclave on Destination Himachal Conclave on Unforgettable Himachal: Opportunities Unlimited”, organized by PHD Chamber and Department of Tourism, HP.

“India’s economy has got less affected amidst the ongoing recession where the leadership across the globe is being tested. We have prepared recommendations for introducing stimulus packages to push the industrial growth of the country. We will not be forgetting the needs of Himachal Pradesh. Ironically this state has also been encouraging those industries which are damaging the ecology of the state and do not have major contribution the state’s economy. There is need to see what kind of industries need to be promoted according to which a special stimulus package could be worked out”, he said. He also emphasized on the need to push the growth of tourism sector, IT industry and electronic industry in HP.

“Himachal has large potential in tourism sector and the state has all needed attractions for tourist including mountains, rivers, backwaters, ancient temples and forest. Tourism has major contribution towards the state’s economy as it generates employment, brings FDI and foreign exchange. The industry and government should come together to create a congenial environment to attract the tourists. Besides I will try to get incentives to boost the tourism sector in the state”, the minister added.
