HPUNA celebrates World Environment Day at St. Bede’s

The Himachal Pradesh United Nations Association (HPUNA) today organised a function at St. Bede’s College here on Monday on the occasion of World Environment Day. The theme of the function was “The Planet Needs You-Unite to Combat Climate Change”.

In the programme, presentations were made about the climatic changes that could adversely affect  every aspect of human life. Elaborating the impact of Global Warming on the routine life of the humans, former chief conservator of forest, Dr Pankaj Khullar said that while climate change affects everyone, it is expected to have a disproportionate effect on the living of the humans in developing countries. “And there is no need of worrying from this fact as these changes in the climate have been there from the last so many years”, he said, adding, the need of the hour is to learn with these changes and to decide whether to combat these changes or to adapt these changes into our lives.

Chief guest on the occasion, Mayor of Shimla, Narender Kataria underlined the need for raising awareness about climatic changes and initiating steps to stop the disturbing need.

Chairman of the association, C.P. Mahajan said that the association has drawn its action plan for the year ahead which will include taking effective steps to education general masses about the issue of global warming.

The occasion was marred by number of cultural items presented by the girls of the St. Bede’s College including a gorgeous play performed by the children of the Tibetan School. Organisations named SEEDS and Voice of Himachal also contributed in the programme.
