Shimla: Putting to practice the ‘Van thana’ policy, Himachal Pradesh government on Thursday opened the first forest thana at Chhaila in Shimla district to tackle organized forest crimes like timber smuggling in a more effective manner.
The thana was inaugurated by Additional Chief Secretary (Forest) Avay Shukla, who on the occasion said the thana would cover sensitive areas like Deha, Pachhad, Prali-Ghund, Ghorna and Janan, where high incidences of forest crime have been reported. He added that one deputy forest ranger (thana head), seven forest guards and three forest workers will be deputed in the thana that has been equipped with a Jeep, communication system, arms and other required facilities.
