Shimla: The Communist Party of India (M) has alleged that people working under NREGA have not been allowed to avail holiday on the day of polling in Himachal Pradesh, thus debarring them from exercising their right to franchise. Tikender Singh Panwar, member, state secretariat, CPIMI, claimed that the daily/casual workers are entitled to a holiday and wages on poll day as provided in Section 135B of Representation of the People Act 1951, but this was not the case in Himachal.
He further alleged that some training programme of anganwari workers was also taking place in different parts of the state during on polling day. “They too have been discouraged by the officials of the department, especially in Theog, not to vote as according to them one vote of theirs would not count,” he said.
