Shimla: Candidates contesting the Lok Sabha elections in Himachal seem to have grown quite a bit since they comtested the last general election as according to a survey there has been an average increaso of 557 per cent in their individual assets.
The study was carried out by the HP Election Watch, part of the National Election Watch (NEW) — a nationwide campaign of more than 1,200 NGOs working for electoral reforms and ensuring better governance in the country.
Some highlights:
• No. of Candidate with Criminal Record is 1 i.e. 3.3 % compared to nationwide average of 15.47%
till now.
• 9 (or 30%) candidates have total assets of Rs. 1 crore & above.
• 33.3%of candidates (10 out of 30) have not furnished PAN card details.
• 5 candidates have liabilities of more than Rs.20 lacs.
• Average assets value of INC candidates is Rs 6 crores, of BJP is Rs 2 crore s & of BSP is Rs 79
lacs.
• 8 candidates have been found who contested in 2004 elections. The average increase in individual
assets has been 557% with one candidate showing a jump of over 3722% .
• Around 57% candidates (17 out of 30) are graduates & above.
• Number of women candidate is only 1(3.3%) from RWS (Rashtrawadi Sena)
