High reaches of Himachal experience snowfall

The higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh have experienced snowfall and rainfall in last 24 hrs but it was clear in the morning and partly cloudy during the day.

The state experienced wide spread rain at most places and heavy rainfall at some places in Chamba district and heavy snowfall in districts of Lahaul and Spiti, Kullu and Kinnaur during last 24 hrs.

Kalpa in Kinnuar recorded 39 cm snowfall; Keylong in Lahaul Spiti got 34 cm snow, Moorang 18 cm & tourist resort Manali 3 cm respectively. Bhandal in Chamba got 66 mm rain, Kheri 49 mm, Manali 48 mm, Saloni & Chamba 43 cm each, Palampur in Kangra 36 cm, Jogindernagar in Mandi 35 mm, Bharmaur in Chamba & Rohru 29 mm each. While Baijnath in Kangra recorded 28 mm rainfall, Bhoranj in Hamirpur & Jubbal in Shimla 26 mm each, Kasol in Bilaspur 25 mm, Dharamshala in Kangra 23 mm and Kangra 21 mm.

Minimum temperature declined by one to two degrees in last 24 hrs as Kalpa was cold at minus 6.2 degrees Celsius, Keylong at minus 3 degrees, Manali minus 0.4 degrees, Shimla 5 degrees and Bhuntar in Kullu 5.8 degrees. Una was low at 6 degrees, Solan 6.5 degrees, Palampur in Kangra at 7 degrees, Dharamshala and Dalhousie 8 degrees each and Sundernagar 8.6 degrees. Meanwhile Kangra recorded 9.8 degrees, Nahan in Sirmaur 11 degrees and Hamirpur 13.4 degrees respectively.

The metrological office has forecast rain or snow at isolated parts in mid hills and high reaches in next 24 hrs however it would be mainly dry in the plains.
