World Bank to built up urban transport in Shimla town

The World Bank has assured to provide assistance to the town of Shimla for long term sustainable solutions in the field of urban transport.

The new transport system would emphasize on hill specific solutions including good means of pedestrian and other mobility construction of rope ways and digging of tunnels. Mr. Sanjay Chauhan and Mr. Tekinder Panwar, Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Shimla Municipality confirmed the news after attending a meeting with World Bank at New Delhi on Feb 19, 2015.

The Municipal Corporation would submit a concept note to the Union government with an objective to develop the plan to de -congest the town, focusing on non motorized transport as one of the important modes. A comprehensive mobility plan was discussed in the meeting where the  urban mass transit company made the presentation in finding long term sustainable solutions in the field of urban transport. Mr. Panwar also confirmed that the Municipal Corporation would prepare a detailed concept note and send it for an approval to the Department of Economic Affairs (DEA), Government of India.
