24 engineering students drown in Beas river : Himachal Pradesh

24 engineering students from Andhra Pradesh drowned in Beas river at Thalot in Mandi district of Himachal after sudden release of water from Largi Dam on Sunday evening.

Deputy Commissioner Mandi Devesh Kumar said that a students tourist party hailing from Andhra Pradesh stopped at Thalot besides dry Beas river, suddenly the water level rose up and around 24 of them were drowned in the river.

Rescue operation was launched but no surviver or body had been traced yet.

Incident occurred when water stored in Largi Dam at Aout was suddenly released in the river washing down 24 of 48 students and teachers who were in mid of nearly dry river bed at Thalot area.

No warning siren was played before releasing the water in the river.

Rescue operation was continue but there is no report of victims and most of them are feared dead.
