Keylong witness coldest night of the season; night temperature dips to minus 17 degrees Celsius

Keylong headquarters of Lahaul & Spiti district witnessed coldest night of this winter season as night temperature plunged 3 degrees in last 24 hours and keep 7 degrees below normal. Moreover, most of the area in Shimla district remained cut off from rest of the world for third day today.

The Met office said that night temperature dips to minus 17 degrees at Keylong last night as it was minus 7 degrees below normal and 3 degrees down in last 24 hours. Followed by Kalpa in Kinnaur at minus 7 degrees and 4 degrees below normal.

Minimum temperature of tourist resort Manali was at minus 6.6 degrees which was 4.6 down normal. It was under zero degrees at Shimla, Chamba, Sundernagar in Mandi district, Bhuntar in Kullu district and Dalhousie, as Shimla and Dalhousie were at 0. 2 degrees each and Sundernagar and Bhuntar at 0.8 degrees each. Chamba town was at 0.4 degrees.

Kangra, Palampur and Hamirpur 1.5 degrees each, Solan was at 2 degrees, Bilaspur, Dharamshala and Una 3 degrees each, and Nahan in Sirmaur district was at 4 degrees respectively.

This capital town was still covered under thick carpet of snow as many shady places had thick pile of snow. People have to brave extreme cold wave and slippery roads as many of them sustain snow injuries and were hospitalized at IGMC. MC Shimla tried to open most of internal roads but due to mounting and formation of hard sheet of snow after frost of last night, roads have become extremely slippery.

The life is still out of gear in high reaches as National Highway 22 is closed for last three days as heavy snow is mounted on the road. Tourist resorts Kufri, Narkanda, and other towns like Theog, Jubbal, Kotkhai, Chopal and Rohru is snowbound for last three days and many of them were without power and water supply after snapping of power cable and block of jamming of water pipes in coldness.

Half dozen of trees were on road as they got uprooted after heavy snowfall. Sewerage line, power line and roof of Braham Kumari center were damaged as two trees were uprooted near Dayanand school in the heart of this town. No one was injured in the mishap occurred on Sunday.

The weather was mainly dry today but Kumersen in Shimla district had three cm fresh snowfall. Baijnath in Kangra district had 12 mm rain, Dharamshala 9 mm, Jogindernagar in Mandi district 8 mm and Kandaghat in Solan 3 mm.

The met office forecast mainly dry weather in next 24 hours.
