Demanding an ouster of transporter minister Mr. G.S. Bali, taxi operators striking unions today called off the three days protest after getting assurance from the state government that the tax on commercial vehicles will not be increased in the immediate future.

Addressing the media persons today, Jeet Ram, the general secretary of the state action committee of taxi operators and all commercial vehicles said that Mr. Bali is creating pressure on them to increase the tax on the vehicles as a notification has been issued earlier in this regard.

Three days complete strike by more than 80,000 taxi operators was complete in the state which was called to protest against the proposed move to hike the passengers tax levied by the government on various transport vehicles like taxies, trucks, cabs and other type of vehicles.

However, the minister denied of such move as he also addressed the media  yesterday.

“We have tried to make contact with the concerned ministers to go for negotiations but Mr. Bali evaded them every time and also is mounting pressure and is victimizing them for raising demand and joining the agitation”, transporters union leader alleged demanding his ouster or shifting of cabinet berth over such attitude.

Private operators will hold joint meeting of all unions at Hamirpur and Mandi on January 25, 2014 to decide the next course of action but it called off the strike today claiming that it remained successful to mount pressure on the state authority.

Mr. Ram said that the minister alleged that taxi operators were not following the government direction guidelines which is not true. All its members are serious and they are not indulged in any type of crime.

Transport minister had observed yesterday that transporters and drivers of taxies and cabs should ensure security to the woman in the vehicles as it is a moot question today that they are not feeling secure in the private vehicles.

“Every passenger is like God to our drivers involved in the profession and such statement made by minister is just a move to victimize them as they were striking against his wish,” Mr. Ram alleged.
