Himachal Pradesh government would consider the admission of students on economic criteria after contemplating this issue on the party platform latter.
This was stated by Revenue Minister Kaul Singh Thakur who was replying to a resolution brought by Congress member Asha Kumari seeking reservation of student in the educational institution on economic criteria rather than on social background.
Presenting the resolution in the house today, Asha Kumari demanded to provide reservation of student in the education institution on economic criteria rather than keeping it on social class and castes.
She said that poor have no caste and creed, therefore, reservation in the education institution should be on economical background as the students belongs to economically weaker section of upper caste could not be deprived from taking education as they are unable to compete with the students of well to do family of any caste.
BJP member Rikhi Ram Kaundal opposed the resolution saying that the Congress member was politicizing the issue. He said the resolution was against the spirit of constitution. Ishwar Dass Dhiman of BJP and Congress member Mukesh Agnihotri also spoke on the motion.
On the request of minister Mrs. Kumari withdraw the resolution after satisfactory reply by the member. She said that since the member accepted the proposal she is ready to withdraw it.
