State government has brought a legislation for women empowerment in the state assembly yesterday after slashing down the stamp duties for women from existing rate of five percent to four percent.

Himachal Revenue minister Kaul Singh Thakur introduced the Indian Stamp Himachal Pradesh (Amendment) Bill 2013, seeking to amend clause 23 of Indian Stamp Act 1899 to provide reduced stamp duty for women.

It would reduce the stamp duty for women from five per cent to four percent putting this burden on men as it has been raised by one percent from existing five to six percent with approval of it in the house.

Citing the reason for introduction of bill, minister said in memorandum that it would step towards women empowerment, the provision would encourage registration of land in the name of women.
