DC Shimla kicks off three days Public Information Campaign at Sunni

Deputy Commissioner Shimla, Dinesh Malhotra kicked off three days Bharat Nirman Public Information Campaign at Government Senior Secondary School Sunni, yesterday to create awareness among masses about Bharat Nirman and flagship programs run by the Centre in the state.

Terming Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MNREGA) as one of the largest employment scheme in the world, Mr. Malhotra observed that Himachal has been adjudged among few leading states for successfully implementing this scheme in the state.

Despite state having achieved the target of complete electrification and potable water facilities much earlier, he said that it was still working hard for ensuring benefits of such schemes after giving quality services to people.

Mr. Malhotra said that people were not coming forward to drive the benefit of MNREGA as people have other ways to render their livelihood.

Speaking on the progress of MNREGA, Assistant Project Officer DRDA, Surinder Thakur said that it was implemented in 2008 in the district and so far Rs. 170 crores have been spent on it and Rs. 15 crores are being allotted this year.

Around 53,000 households derived the benefits of 9960 developmental works after achieving 23 lakh working days under it. He said that district administration has also started toll free numbers to address the queries of general public about this scheme.

Resource persons of Food and Civil Supply and Reserve Bank of India also spoke on the occasion.

Earlier Tara Singh, conducting officer of Press Information Bureau, Shimla, said that feedback of the people regarding implementation of various schemes would be collected and sent to the Central government. Mr. Singh said that around 33 exhibition stalls depicting the progress and implementation of the Central government’s program were put up in the campaign.

This is the 18th Bharat Nirman PIC programme being organized in Himachal Pradesh. The officials of other media units of the Information and Broadcasting were also present on this occasion.

Other media units of Information and Broadcasting Ministry, including Directorate of Field Publicity, Song and Drama Division, Directorate of Audio and Visual Publicity, AIR and DDK are also taking part in the campaign.
