Rogi Kalyan Samiti (RKS) has decided to open its medicine outlet in Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) and Hospital, Shimla. So far it was acting as a nodal agency implementing centrally sponsored schemes like RSBY in the state.

This was decided in the governing body meeting chaired by Health and Family Welfare Minister, Shri Kaul Singh Thakur at IGMC yesterday. RKS was set up in the state during last BJP government. At that time, it was opposed by the Congress party in opposition.

Now taking a U-turn Congress rule has approved estimated budget expenditure of Rs. 1738 lakhs for the financial year 2013-14. According to provisions, a sum of Rs. 190 lakhs has been kept for diagnostic facilities, Rs. 236  lakhs for procurement of medicines and Rs. 110 lakhs for providing free surgical items to the patients in the estimated budget.

Shri Kaul Singh Thakur said that fresh tenders would be invited to re-open ‘Jan Aushdhi Shop’ at IGMC to ensure availability of quality generic medicines at affordable prices to the patients.

He said that RKS would open its own medicine shop in IGMC for providing medicines and surgical items to government schemes beneficiaries such as Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojna, Cancer Fund, Poor Patient Welfare Fund, Chief Minister Relief Fund, MSSY and School Health Program on credit basis.

It is worthwhile to mentioned here that there are more than five civil supply outlets in the IGMC which are functioning smoothly imparting the 24×7 emergency subsidized service .
