Moderate intensity earthquake rattled few parts of Himachal Pradesh for ten seconds today at 1227 hours, forcing people to rush out of their offices and houses.
The Shimla center meteorological department in charge Manmohan Singh said that intensity of earthquake was 5.8 on the Richter scale. Its epicenter was in Jammu and Kashmir-HP border, at latitude of 33.1 degrees North and longitude of 75. 8 degrees East.
The report said that no loss of life was reported from anywhere but students, staff and faculty members of HPU and Central University at Shahpur rushed out of their offices and classrooms as tremor rattled the buildings.
Report coming from other district headquarters like Solan, Hamirpur, Mandi, Kangra and Chamba also confirmed the tremors.
Deputy Commissioner of Chamba, Mr. Sandeep Kandam said that district administration did not get any report of loss of life and property so far.
A slight intensity earthquake measuring 3.2 on the Richter scale was felt in Chamba district on April 25, 2013.
Kangra and Chamba district fall in the Seismic zone Schedule V area in the state.
