Three people rescued from an avalanche hit hamlet in Kinnaur district; rest still missing

Three people marooned inside avalanche hit houses, have been rescued alive. While rest are still missing, as seven to eight people were reported missing in Kafnu hamlet in Bhabha valley in Kinnaur district, at 07:30 hours yesterday morning, said by Deputy Commissioner of Kinnaur J.M. Pathania.

Earlier, rescue team rushed to avalanche hit village comprising of ITBP. Armed forces were also asked to help the civil administration in the relief and rescue operations later.

Mr. Pathania said that eight houses were earlier reported untraceable under the avalanche debris at Kafnu hamlet under Bhabha valley, have been traced by the rescue team as they were buried inside the avalanche. No dead body was recovered from the spot so far. He hopes that rescue team would be able to remove the trapped people from their houses alive.

Mr. Pathania added that district had very heavy snowfall since last three days and there is an avalanche threat looming in higher reaches of the district as about eight to ten feet snowfall has been recorded there. The district has been cut off from rest of the country as Hindustan Tibet NH -22 is covered with thick layer of snow above Tapri. Snowfall has caused heavy loss of life and property for last 20 days in the district.

Fearing avalanche, state and district administration has advised the people not to venture out of their houses.
