Continue rain and thundershowers in the down streams and heavy snowfall on the high reaches disrupt life in entire state as it was raining and snowing for last 48 hours.
Tourist resorts like Shimla, Manali, Kufri, Dalhousie, Narkanda, Mashobra were covered under sheet of snowfall while many parts of Shimla got unprecedented continue spell of rainfall and thundershowers which disrupted many roads and mainly the link roads of the state. Snowfall was continue in the state when report was being filed.
Nahan-Shimla road in Sirmaur district was disrupted since last night due to many landslides near Haripurdhar. About 80 people including many children were stranded in between Minas and Shillai area as 30 vehicles were waiting to open heavy landslides which came over road since last night. Report said that people have to spent the night in vehicles. There were also many patients who required urgent hospitalization. Hindustan Tibet NH 22 is also snowbound at Kufri, Narkanda, Tapri for last two days. The vehicular traffic is on the road via Dhami which was being plied up to Tapri from Shimla. NH 21 is also snowbound near Manali with one feet thick snow on the road. Many state highways and link roads also got disrupted in Chamba district as heavy snowfall was continue in the district.
There are reports that power supply which could not be resumed in many parts of Kinnaur, Shimla, Kullu and Lahual and Spiti districts have been affected due to fresh heavy snowfall and continue rain. Water supply is also disrupted in many parts of the state where water pipes freeze and supply of water could not restore to lift water in many water supply schemes.
This capital town was raining for last three days which reduced the movement of people in roads and markets. Shimla got about 5 cm snowfall this morning. Heavy snowfall reported in high reaches of Lahual and Spiti, Kinnaur, Chamba and Kullu district and people were cautioned not to venture out of their houses due to threat of avalanche. Lahual and Spiti, Chamba and Kinnaur district is worst hit by the current spell of heavy rain. Respective district administration is helpless to assist people in these areas as these three districts are cut of from rest of the world and communication links like mobiles and landlines are not functioning in the tribal belt.
An under construction building capsized in this capital town near Dhalli yesterday but no one got injured in the mishap. The vehicular traffic was partly affected in Shimla town due to snowfall, which is likely to open within two to three hours. Vehicular traffic to Theog, Jubbal, Chopal, Kotgarh and Rohru and many other roads were snowbound for last three days.
Reports of uprooting trees and electric poles due to continue rain in the state also affected movement of life and power supply in the state. The cold wave condition is grim as day and night temperature was below 6 degrees in this capital town and night temperature almost near freezing point.
The Met office warned heavy snowfall for Feb 4,5 and 6 in the state while weather was overcast today and it was raining and snowing in many parts of the state.
