Tourist resorts experiencing snowfall in Himachal; widespread rain in down streams

Tourist resorts Kufri, Narkanda, Manali, Chail, Mashobra and Shali are experiencing snowfall in Himachal Pradesh while widespread rainfall occurred in down streams, following prevailing of western disturbances which would bring more rain or snow in the state, Met office said.

Kufri and Narkanda got 10 to 12 cm snowfall, Mashobra, Shali and Chail in Solan district also had light spell of snowfall since this morning. Manali and tribal town Keylong in Lahaul & Spiti also had snowfall this afternoon. There is a report that Rohtang Pass and Kaksar in Lahaul & Spiti district also experienced moderate to heavy snowfall. After snowfall, Hindustan-Tibet road was partly affected as vehicles were skidding on the slippery snowbound roads. Theog-Kharapather road has been closed for vehicular traffic, after it became snowbound at number of points.

There are reports that widespread rain also occurred in most parts of Himachal Pradesh. Most of the people were braving cold wave in the state as number of them did not come out of their houses following inclement and cold wave in the state. Despite cold wave is prevailing in the state but with improvising the mercury, people took some respite from the extreme dry cold weather causing cold and viral fever. Moreover fresh spells of snow and rain are considered highly beneficial for the growing of rabi crop in the plains and apple and other fruits in the high reaches.

The minimum temperature of Keylong has raised by three to four degrees in last 24 hours as it was minus 3 degrees Celcius, Kalpa in Kinnuar district minus 3.2 degrees, Manali was minus 0.6 degrees, Saluni in Chamba district 2.5 degrees, Bhuntar in Kullu 2.8 degrees, Shimla 3 degrees, Sundernagar 4.4 degrees, Solan 5 degrees, Palampur 6.5 degrees, Una 7.8 degrees, Nahan 8.7 degrees and Dharamshala 9.4 degrees.

The Met office said that an induced cyclonic circulation extending up to 2.1 kilometers above mean sea level persist over central Pakistan and North-Western India likely to bring rain and snow in most parts of Himachal Pradesh in next 48 hours. The Met office also issued warning that heavy rain or snowfall is likely to occur at few places in the district of Chamba, Lahaul & Spiti, Kullu, Kangra, Kinnaur and Shimla during next 48 hours. It said that heavy rain or thundershowers will occur at few places in the district of Una, Hamirpur, Bilaspur, Solan and Sirmaur.
