Mercury slides down in Himachal upto minus 8 degrees Celsius

The Mercury recorded sharp slide in Himachal Pradesh despite clear weather in the state as night temperature in the high reaches of Himachal went down to many degrees below freezing point.

Keylong, headquarters of Lahaul & Spiti district was coldest in the state with minimum at minus 8 degrees, which was lowest of the season, it was 5 degrees lower from yesterday and 4 degrees below normal. Kalpa of Kinnuar and Manali was also minus 2 degrees today which is 1 and 2 degrees below the normal. Bhuntar in Kullu and Solan was at freezing point at 0.9 degrees and 0.7 degrees respectively. In Mandi district, Sundernagar was coldest with 1.1 degrees and Mandi town 3.4 degrees, Palampur and Shimla was at 4 degrees each. Palampur registered decline of 4 degrees however contrary to others places. Shimla recorded upward trend in night temperature which was increased by two degrees from yesterday. Una 5.7 degrees, Dharamshala and Nahan at 7 degrees each. Nahan registered departure of 6 degrees down from yesterday.

To give respite from the extreme cold wave, the day began with bright sunshine and maximum temperature is likely to get better. The met office forecast mainly clear weather in next 24 hours.
