Himachal under severe cold wave after rain and snow

After short spell of rain and snow, Himachal Pradesh came under spate of severe cold wave as night temperature suddenly declined. However, people took some respite from extreme cold and inclement weather today as bright sunshine resume this morning.

Tourists and locals enjoyed the winter snow in the upper reaches of Manali, Dalhousie and Kalpa today. This capital town witnessed huge crowd basking in the sun as clear weather in the day gave some respite to them.

During last 24 hours, the state experienced moderate to heavy snowfall on high reaches whereas light rain lashed few parts of the state. Udaipur in Lahaul & Spiti district recorded 9 mm snowfall, Keylong the headquaters of Lahaul & Spiti district 2 cm and Kalpa in Kinnuar district 1 cm of snow.

Tissa of Chamba district had 17 mm rain, Saloni 16 mm, Dalhousie 13 mm, Kheri 8 mm, Manali and Bhuntar had 15 mm each rainfall, Seobagh 13 mm and Banjar 7 mm. In Mandi district Gohar and Sundernagar had 12 mm rain each , Jogindernagar 8 mm, Kotkhai in Shimla district 12 mm Shimla town 2 mm, Bangana in Una district 10 mm, Una town and Solan 4 mm each, Sujanpur Tira 5 mm, Hamirpur and Mehre in Kangra district 7 mm each, Dehra Gopipur, Baijnath and Gaggal 5 mm each, Palampur 3.6 mm, Sangrah and Nahan had 6 mm and 1. 4 mm rain respectively.

Mercury plunged down in the state as Keylong was cold at minus 4 degrees, Kalpa minus 3.5 degrees which is till now lowest of the season, Manali minus 1, Solan 2.4 degrees, Shimla also witnessed last coldest night at 2.7 degrees, Mandi 4 degrees Bhuntar and Sundernagar at 4.8 degrees each, Palampur at 5 degrees, Nahan 7 degrees , Dharamshala 7.6 degrees and Una 8.6 degrees.

The cold wave is likely to increase further in the state, however met office forecast mainly dry weather in next 24 hours.
