Cold wave intensify after Rain & Snow in Himachal

Ending prolong dryness period, high reaches of Himachal Pradesh got light to moderate spell of snow and low lines were lashed with rainfall, further tightening the grip of cold wave in the state as sky was partly clouded overnight and this morning, the Met. Office informed.

Shimla Met. Office director Manmohan Singh said that western disturbances lies in the air for couple of days bringing current spell of snow in the high reaches of Kullu, Lahual & Spiti, Kinnuar, Chamba, Kangra and Shimla districts and light rain in the rest of the state.

Lahaul & Spiti district public relation officer Labh Singh told that Keylong experienced one centimeter snow however high reaches like Lady of Keylong and Seven-sisters hills got 20 to 25 cm snowfall. He said that minimum temperature in the vally plunged to minus 0.8 degrees however it was minus 10-15 degreees in snowlines. Most of the roads were unaffected by the current spell of snow in the district. 13050 ft high Rohtang Pass, known as gateway to Lahaul & Spiti also got 30 cm snowfall but still open for vehicles to pass. The eleciton process is also partly affected due to cold wave in the tribal district.

Minimum temperature in Kinnuar district slided down by 2 degrees as it was recorded just 1 degree after mild snowfall on the high mountain ranges. In Kullu distirct, Jalori-Jot and Merri got snow and down streams were lashed by the rain. There was report of Chamba district also being struck by windstorm, hitting power supply in the town. Report arriving from Bharmour, Pangi and Baralacha in the district said that light to moderate snowfall occured in the high altitude ending prolong dryness period in the district. Similarly in Kangra district Dhauladhar ranges also got light spell of snow and down streams like Mclodganj, Dharamshala and Palampur received autumn-showers. Dharamshala recorded 6.6 mm rain in the district.

The capital town also recorded 1 mm, Una got 4 mm rain, Solan 1.7 mm. Minimum temperature of Shimla was at 6.3 whereas tourist resort Manali was at 5 degree Celsius .
