Shimla (Jan 7): A protest demonstration was held outside the office of HRTC managing director at Shimla Bus Stand today to protest non-implementation of the order of the deputy commissioner to change the traffic plan in Shimla town. Coming together under the banner of Shimla Nagrik Sabha, the protesters alleged that the HRTC buckled under pressure from the government and private bus stand owner.

The protest was joined by dozens of people from different walks of life including porters, shopkeepers, taxi operators, tourist guides, and travel agents. The demonstrators castigated the state government for not intervening in the matter and allowing the local commuters being faced with innumerable troubles because of shifting of the bus stand. They further stated that it was a strange situation where the government’s own order was not being implemented by another agency of the same government. “This is been done deliberately. Though it was stated that all buses after 8 pm will ply from the old bus stand and, similarly before 7 in the morning the buses shall terminate and depart for there, still after 8 pm the passengers have to take a shuttle bus to the new bus stand,”it was alleged.
