Shimla (Dec 30): Intense cold wave pervailing in Himachal has forced
people to stay inside their houses as temperature has been keeping one to two degrees below normal, the Met office said.
Despite bright sunshine during the day, mercury was one to two degree below normal on Thursday nigh. Keylong in Lahaul Spiti was coldest in the state at minus 7.5 degree Celsius. Kalpa in Kinnuar was low at minus three degrees, tourist resort Manali in Kullu district minus two degrees, Bhuntar in Kullu minus 1.5
degrees. Solan minus 0.6 degrees, Sundernagar in Mandi district minus
0.3 degrees and Mandi 0. 3 degrees, respectivley.
Minimum temperature of Palampur in Kangra was two degrees, Dharmashala, Shimla town and Una at four degrees each and Nahan in Sirmour 10 degrees, respectively.
The state administerations has ordered to pile up a stock of 60,000 quintals of firewood at the timber depots in the tribal areas of he state, keeping the intense cold wave in mind.
Freezing water pipe also disrupted water supply in the tribal areas where mercury was several degrees below freezing point. Thick fog on roads near river banks in the state affected morvement of traffic during the morning hours, besides rail and air traffic was also affected by the fogy weather.
The Met office forecast that there would be no respite from the cold weather in the next 24 hours.
