Nadaun (Sept 28): Nadaun MLA Sukhvinder Singh ’Sukhu’ while attending a public information campaign organised by Press Information Bureau, Shimla, here today demanded that labourers under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MNREGA) should be given wages under Minimum Wages Act rather than on the basis of assessment of accomplished work.

Reacting to resentment among villagers over the current system of payment, he claimed that in many cases women were being given Rs 60 per day while men were getting Rs 120 as wage for the same 8 hours of work in a day. He asked the people to take legal assistance in the matter, claiming that they were entitled to get Rs 120 as daily wage under the Minimum Wage Act norms.
Sukhu said that unskilled woman workers under MNREGA were rendering work equal to man and there should not be any discrimination against women.
