Shimla (Aug 13): Keylong in Lahaul valley of Himachal Pradesh got season’s first snowfall as people coming out of their houses this morning found the town and high reaches laped in white cover. Meanwhile, overnight rainfall in the state and continued spells in last three days triggers landslides and disrupting normal life, blocking roads at several places.

State government official based in Keylong Shed Singh informed HimVani that Keylong and its surrounding hills experienced 12 cm snowfall while there are report of moderate to heavy snowfall on the high mountain ranges like Lady of Keylong and Seven Sisters peaks. However, there was no snowfall in Udiapur, Pooh and Spiti.

Tourists resort Shimla, Manali and Dharmshala have been getting insistent rainfall. Continued spell of rain during last three days distrupted normal life in Mandi, Kullu and Shimla districts as most link roads were obstructed by landslides, while NH-21 linking Chandigargh and tourists destination Manali remained off for several hours as Dehair bridge caved in on both sides following heavy rainfall.

Mandi-Jogindernagar highway is off for vehicular traffic due to massive landslides at Gumma. Continued rain in the hills is creating danger of floods in downstream and plain areas as most of Himachal rivers are flowing just below below the danger mark.
