Three held for ragging at NIT Hamirpur

Hamirpur (Aug 5): Himachal Pradesh is once again in news regarding ragging menace. Hamirpur district police chief Kuldip Sharma told HimVani that police have arrested three students from the National Institute of Technlogy here on charges of ragging.

Sharma said that on basis of a complaint by the registrar of NIT, police registered a case of ragging against three students of the institute and raided Kailash Hostel. However, students were not there. While two accused were arrested from main bazaar, one of them managed to escape from the hostel and was ararested at Tanda on Thursday.
A case under Section 3 and 209 of Prohibition of Ragging Act was registerted by the Hamirpur police. Sharma said that those taken into custody have been identified as Avinash Chaudhry, Ankush Kumar and Abhinav Thakur. The accused had ragged eight students of first year.
