India Post committed to improve services in Himachal: Sachin Pilot

Shimla (July 25): Union minister of state for communication and information tecnology Sachin Pilot today dedicated 11 post offices throgh video link as par of “Project Arow” here at the General Post Office today.

The post offices dedicated today inculde Solan, Nahan, Mandi, Sundernagar, Hamirpur, Bilaspur, Palampur, Dehra, Una, Rampur Bushiar and Barsar. The project was to enhance the quality of service in core areas and upgrading the ‘look and feel’ of post offices. The project startd in year 2009 covered 14 post offices in the state in the first phase while in the second phase it covered another 11.

Under the project there is strong emphasis on improving efficiencies
of mail delivery, remittances, saving accounts and other services. Similarly, enhanced branding, technology, human resources and infrastructure are being deployed to deliver better services.

  1. Problem with India Post has been that it has not matched the courier service from the private sector in terms of prices and service. Though courier services are catering to cities and town only but it is a major chunk of business. No doubt in rural areas the postal department is doing a commendable job.

    Small savings is one main area where post offices also have done a good job. This should be strengthened more and may be they should function more in terms of banks. This will be much beneficial in rural areas. More tax wavers should be offered people offering for investing in postal banks.
