Shimla (July 23): Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee today condemned the
state BJP government, alleging that it has diluted the basic spirit of Section
118 of HP Land Reform and Tenancy Act, 1972, and HP Apartment and Property Regulation Act-2005 to benefit the colonizers and land lobbies to protect their interest.

Addressing media persons, chief Spokesperson of HPCC Kuldeep Singh Pathania said that Section 118 watches the interest of agriculturists by not allowing sale of their land to non-agriculturists from outside Himachal, but it was diluted by the current
BJP rule bringing amendment in the Act in 2010. He said that amendment is now paving way to open up dozen private universities.

Similarly, HP Apartment & Property Regulation Act-2005 brought in by the Congress regime with purpose to decongest urban areas has been misused for the purpose of promotion of colonizers, most of them are from outside the state who are trying to grab land in congested areas. He said that new construction in heritage areas of Shimla was being allowed under BJP regime after misusing the basic spirit of the two acts
