Mill owner jailed for siphoning off wheat meant for PDS

Shimla (July 20): Himachal Pradesh high court has sentenced Pawan Kumar Sahni, owner of Giri Raj Atta Mill at Deonghat, to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of one year and pay a fine of 20,000 in a case under sections 120-B, 409, 218 & 420 of the IPC and sections 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.

A division bench comprising Justice Surjit Singh and Justice Rajiv Sharma passed the orders on an appeal of the state government against the judgment of the special judge, Solan, acquitting four accused in a case of siphoning off wheat meant for distribution to the families living below poverty line. The convict, Pawan Kumar Sahni, would have to undergo simple imprisonment for a further period of three months if he fails to submit the fine.
