Shimla (July 12): The lone public toilet on the historic Ridge has been closed for public use following its entry point and a major retaining wall caved-in after heavy rainfall and seepage in its foundation near ARTAC Club.

It is worthwhile to mention here that nearby toilet for females had
been closed last years due to similar problem when a major part of Ridge
had caved-in. While the retaining wall was partly restored, the toilet has not thrown open.

The two toilets had been the only public toilets in the bustling Ridge are for the past over 50 years and the local MC failed to add any new facility, thereby causing hygiene problem due to open urination at number of places nearby the Mall and Ridge.

It is worthwhile to mention here that Shimla witnessed daily footfall
of more than 50,000 tourists during peak season and weekends in
addition to locals.
