Shimla (July 4): Himachal Pradesh High Court has directed district labour officers of Kangra, Solan, Una and Sirmaur districts to file separate affidavits within a month regarding periodic inspections conducted by labour Inspectors with regard to compliance of various welfare measures under labour laws and submit a comprehensive report.

A division bench of Chief Justice Kurian Joseph and Justice Sanjay Karol directed the officers to file the report specifying the number of establishments in the district, periodicity of inspection, action taken, follow-up made and the result thereof. The court also directed to file a report as to the number of establishments not registered and action taken in this regard.

The directions of the court came on a PIL registered suo-motu by the court taking cognisance of a news item published in an English daily regarding flouting of labour laws in Solan district’s industrial belt. The matter has now been listed for further hearing on August 8, 2011.
