Manali: In order to curb the traffic congestion and facilitating large number of tourists travelling to snow packed Rohtang Pass,  Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corp Ltd (HPTDC) has decided to introduce two luxury buses on the 52 km long Manali-Rohtang highway from Friday.

Official of corporation said that after these buses on the route, at east 30 cabs will be off the road, minimizing pollution and traffic bottlenecks on this fragile pass. HPTDC has taken this decision, as domestic and international tourists have been complaining of frequent traffic jams on the Manali-Rohtang highway. Earlier, a 27-seater bus was plying between the two destinations, but it was inadequate to handle the tourist rush. To avoid traffic snarls, buses shall start from Manali at 8 am throughout the week except on Tuesday, when Rohtang remains closed for civilians.

“Tourists had been demanding more luxury buses on this route, so we are starting two luxury buses to Rohtang from Friday. Now they will not only travel in luxury, but will also enjoy a beautiful ride at a low cost,” HPTDC transport wing in-charge Raghunath Sharma said. He informed that the department was going to start the bus service on Manali-Leh route from July 1.  According to HPTDC sources at Manali, both the buses have been booked in advance for the maiden journey.
