School days have gone up in Himachal to 240

Shimla (June 22): Strictly following University Grants Commissions recommendations, Himachal Pradesh government has decided to ensure uniform presence of teachers in schools between 10 am and 5 pm daily.

This was announced by education minister Ishwar Dass Dhiman while interacting with media persons here today. He said that there are complaints that teachers despite getting hefty salary from government exchequer do not attend entire school hours. He claimed that school days have gone up after rationalization of holidays to 238-240 days along with 52 holidays in one year. It is worthwhile to mention here that India has average school days of 180-85 while it China has 280 days and South Korea is considered ideal with 223 school days.

Claiming that state government has recruited about 18,000 different category schools teachers during its current tenure, he said that pupil-teachers ratio in the state now is one of the best in the country with 1:18 for primary schools and 1:15 for above primary.
