Senior revenue officer suspended for embezzlement of Rs18 lakh

Nahan: Acting tough over graft case, Himachal government today placed Tehsildar Paonta Sahib under suspension for alleged embezzlement of over Rs18 lakh from his office.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Simour Lokender Chauhan said that suspension orders issued by Financial Commissioner (Revenue) on Saturday reached here today and were delivered to the concerned Tehsildar. The headquarters of the Tehsildar during suspension was yet to be fixed and a departmental enquiry was being initiated against him. However, a police case has already been registered.

The ADC said that taking serious view of the report of a preliminary inquiry held by District Revenue Officer Sirmour into the charges of financial embezzlement of registration charges amounting to Rs18 lakh in the office of Tehsildar Paonta, Deputy Commissioner Sirmour Meera Mohanti has ordered stern action against the guilty. Consequently, the data entry clerk Suraj was immediately terminated while the registration clerk Pawan Kumar was placed under suspension. The DSP Paonta N.S. Negi said that the  police has registered a case under section 406 and 420 IPC and has arrested registration clerk Pawan Kumar while data entry clerk Suraj was being interrogated. He said that total embezzlement detected so far has crossed Rs18 lakh.
