Moderate tremors hit Himachal

Shimla (June 20): Moderate tremors hit several parts of Himachal Pradesh,
including the capital town, as people felt shaking which lasted for
around four seconds today afternoon. Seismological department in-charge RM Sharma said that the earthquake was of moderate intensity, having a magnitude of 4.6 on Richter scale, and it occurred a 11.57.18.

He said that the epicenter was at 30.5 N, 79.3E in the Chamoli region of Uttarakhand. However, no loss of life and property was recoded in the state. It is worthwhile to mention here that Himachal Pradesh falls in Schedule-V of earthquake prone areas wherein in 1905, the Kangra earthquake
measuring 7.8 had killed more than 20,000 people, destroying 100,00 buildings.
