Shimla (Jun 10): Former Uttarakhand chief minister and National Vice-president of BJP, Bhagat Singh Koshiari today lashed out at the UPA government for crackdown on Baba Ramdev and his followers on June 4 and said that merely terming the incident as “unfortunate” was not enough and the Prime Minister should remove Home Minister P Chidambaram and HRD minister Kapil Sibal and also take action against the concerned Delhi police officers.

Describing the police action at Ramlila Grounds as “undemocratic, brutal and attack on fundamental right of speech”, Koshiyari said that it appeared that “emergency-like conditions are back in the country”.  He said that Congress government had muzzled democracy by imposing “Emergency” on June 25, 1975, to crush the popular movement against “corruption” spearheaded by Jaiprakash Narayan and the present government was also resorting to similar tactics to silent the people raising voice against “Corruption and black money”.

Referring to the Lokpal Bill, he said all people occupying high offices, including the Prime minister, judges and even journalists should be covered under the bill. Defending Baba Ramdev, Koshiari said that he popularized “yoga and ayurved” all over the world and that he suspected some conspiracy to malign and defame him.

When asked about land given to Baba Ramdev by Uttarakhand government, he said that no land wag given during his tenure but “I see nothing wrong in giving the land for a good purpose”.
